Childcare groups promised funds

Childcare centres have welcomed the Government’s blueprint for early childcare and education, released yesterday. A promise of increased funding for childcare by the Prime . Minister, Mr Lange, was welcomed by the presi-
dent of the New Zealand Childcare Association, Mrs Pam Croxford.;; ; -v The amount of funding will not be decided until the Budget, but the changes would be introduced in October and take effect in January. Mrs Croxford said parents would have more say. To
receive funding childcare centres would be required to consult parents in the establishment of a charter of intent Private childcare centres were relieved that they would no longer be required to form boards of trustees. That was a main recommendation in the working party’s original report
last year, which - centres feared would mean a loss of autonomy. ' Kindergartens were less pleased abopt the dropping of the requirement because they said trustees were vital to ensure accountability.
