Drilling stops at 40m
Drilling of a well at Bexley, in search of more water for Christchurch, has stopped at 40m. The first aquifer had been reached and pumping tests would be made, said the North Canterbury Catchment Board’s acting resources manager, Mr John Talbot
Water tests would also be made before the drill descended further, he said. Christchurch’s water supply is taken from four aquifers down to 150 m deep. But experts believe there could be another four aquifers down to 400 m, which would double the city’s water supply.
