House burgled Electrical equipment and liquor was among $3500 of property stolen from a house in Northcote Road yesterday afternoon. The police are inquiring about a dark green Hillman Hunter seen nearby at the time of the burglary. Works wages settled A 3.9 per cent wage settlement has been reached between Works Corporation and the New Zealand Workers’ Union. The settlement covers the 2300 wage workers, including tradesmen and labourers, employed by the corporation in its 16 maintenance and construction units. Workers on the Auckland Harbour Bridge are also covered. The settlement is effective for 12 months from January 16, the corporation said.—PA. Suspect list tops 100 The police hunting the shotgun killer of . the Northcote motelier, Mr Rex Bell, have a suspect list of more than 100 people. “These people have been nominated for one reason or another. All are being traced, identified or cleared from the inquiry as appropriate,” said Detective Inspector John Hughes, who heads the investigation. The investigation is now into its fifth week. —PA. Labour’s ‘floor sale’ The Labour Party has sold a floor of offices at its Wellington headquarters for a sum estimated at close to $1 million, Wellington’s “Dominion” newspaper says. The sale of the third floor of Fraser House in the city centre was completed just months after the party’s ruling council told members the level of debt was no longer sustainable, the newspaper reported. A spokesman, who did not want to be named, told NZPA he would not confirm a “speculative report” concerning confidential party matters.—PA. Blowfly spread feared PA Auckland One of Australia’s most harmful blowflies is spreading south through New Zealand. Tests on Australian green blowfly maggots sent to the Ministry of Agriculture show the pest has now damaged sheep in North Auckland, Waikato and Hawke’s Bay. The Ministry is looking for more maggot samples to determine how far down the country the fly will spread.
