1988 as seen on TV
The best way to describe ’BB ON A PLATE (tonight at 6.30 on One) is to outline what it isn’t.
It is not a comprehensive review of all the news events of the year; it’s not a chronicle of death and disaster, and it will not follow the format of a standard new presentation.
“’BB ON A PLATE will serve up a selection of the year’s most memorable images and events, from New Zealand and around the world in a fresh and different way,” says the editor, Philip Alpers. "It will be quite nostalgic.” “We’re hoping to give people the opportunity to see all the images they missed during the year. You know that conversation over the back fence
... ‘did yo see that amazing picture on Thursday?’ ‘No I didn’t manage to catch the news that night.’ With ’BB ON A PLATE they’ll get their chance.” And it will not only be the programme content which smacks of nostalgia. ’BB ON A PLate brings together for the first time in eight years three TVNZ staffers ...
namely Philip Alpers, Judy Bailey and John Hawkesby.
“‘We all started work on Auckland’s regional news programme, ‘Top Half’ on the same day in 1980,” says Alpers. “ With ’BB ON A PLATE I’m the editor and once again John and Judy are the front people.”
