‘Roger’ a holiday hit
By
DAVE WILSON
Roger Rabbit is Christchurch’s No. 1 movie star these holidays and his popularity was confirmed yesterday as rain and cooler temperatures sent holiday-makers into the cinemas. The matinee queue for “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” snaked out of the Savoy Cinema, down the street and round the corner and was still there when the “house full” sign went up. Emotional scenes followed with children weeping and refusing parental suggestions that they try another cinema. The cartoon-live action comedy has been the most popular attraction in Christchurch over the Christmas holiday period, screening for five weeks and scheduled to continue until the end of January. Geoff Murphy’s action film “Never Say Die” has found an eager young audience at the Pacer Kerridge cinemas. However, parents are being advised to take note of a censor’s caution concerning language in the film.
The dramatised story of the Lindy Chamberlain case has attracted strong business at the Regent Cinema, while the latest George Lucas science fantasy epic “Willow,” partly filmed in New Zealand, has also recorded strong box office business.
