Windies overwhelm Aust.

NZPA-AAP Melbourne The West Indies duly retained the Sir Frank Worrell Trophy when they blitzed Australia on the last day of the third test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground yesterday. The Australians collapsed for 114 giving the Windies victory by 285 runs and the series 3-0 with two tests still to be played. The West Indian captain, Viv Richards, declared at nine for 361 overnight to leave Australia an impossible target of 400 to win. The only difference from the last day collapse in Perth was the identity

of the bowlers taking the wickets.

Yesterday it was the turn of Patrick Patterson, according to Malcolm Marshall, the fastest bowler in the world. Patterson ran through the tail to collect four for four from his last 14 balls and finish with five for 39 from 15.1 overs.

Curtly Ambrose grabbed the key wickets of Dean Jones and Steve Waugh to go with his first innings haul of four Courtney Walsh chimed in with two wickets and only the senior bowler, Malcolm Marshall, was left out in the cold with his solitary wicket of the

opener, David Boon. But Marshall would have been celebrating because the wicket was his 300th in tests. Boon and the captain, Allan Border, resisted for 20 but apart from them, only Peter Taylor (18 not out) and Dean Jones (18) could reach double figures.
