A.I.D.S. accelerates
NZPA-Reuter Johannesburg The incidence of A.I.D.S. in South Africa is accelerating, with white men the most common victims, according to a watchdog group. The independent Advisory Group on A.I.D.S. said 86 cases were diagnosed in 1988, up from 48 the year before. Forty-four of this year’s
victims had died, bringing to 113 the total of people killed by the disease since it was first tracked in 1982, the group said. Of the 191 cases diagnosed since 1982, 136 were white men and 32 were black, Indian or mixed-raced Coloured people. Almost half of the cases were diagnosed in Johannesburg. )
