Beau de Zure—Honour Bright likely Hastings quinella combination
Special correspondent Wellington The Te Rapa visitor, Beau de Zure, and the Hastings-trained galloper, Honour Bright, look set to fight out the finish of the $20,000 Best Travel 2000 (2000 m at the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s meeting at Hastings today. The pair were rivals at Otaki earlier in the month when Honour Bright was first and Beau de Zure third in the $lO,OOO Gressier Stud Handicap (2000 m and while Honour Bright was having his first attempt at 2000 metres Beau de Zure is something of a veteran with 10 races at the distance for four wins and two placings. Beau de Zure carried 54kg and Honour Bright 54.5 kg and this time Honour Bright has 56kg and Beau de Zure 54.5 kg. Honour Bright fought hard for his win, but Beau de Zure had to work clear late and was running on strongly at the finish. Last year Beau de Zure collected a
double at the Hawke’s Bay summer meeting. Guess has also raced well on Hastings before. He was fourth last time on the first day of the Manawatu meeting, but injury forced him to miss the Cup later on.
High Peer did well at Rotorua two starts back and there will be interest in the run of Amythest, which has her first run over ground in this campaign. King Kenora and Ngakawau Native are local five-year-olds, who show a good deal of promise. King Kenora was a recent winner at Woodville and Ngakawau Native finished fifth on the opening day of the Manawatu Cup meeting. The Stewards Handicap winner, Merrett, will be the major drawcard in the second leg of the double, the Anvil Court Sprint (1200 m Merrett has not raced since his triumph at Riccarton but even so he is expected to repel the challenges of Sandboy, Crimesta and Laurent.
