Canty on target for another title
PA Wellington The Canterbury assault for its eleventh consecutive national women’s cricket Hansell’s Cup title continued yesterday when it thrashed Auckland by 120 runs.
Canterbury batted first at Te Whiti Park and made 171 all out in 52.5 overs. Auckland struggled to only 51 before being dismissed. Rain stopped play for two and a half hours in the middle of Canterbury’s innings and left the wicket damp and slow. The top scorer for Canter--bury was Maia Lewis who made 33 in her first game of the tournament. Canterbury has not lost a game in the series and has the maximum six points. With a rest day today the team will be eager for its final first round match

A strong partnership between North Shore’s Debbie Hockley (58) and Jeanette Dunning (39) contributed most of the Shore’s total.
Central Districts 125/6 in 47.3 overs (J. Clark 29, G. Rothwell 28, C. Atkins 21 n. 0., E. Signal 20; I. Jagersma 3/ 29) beat North Shore 124-8 in 55 overs (D. Hockley 58, J. Dunning 39; K. Musson 4/20, E. Signal 3/20) by four wickets. Points: Central Districts 2, North Shore 0.
Sarah Kelly made her wicket-keeping debut in the tournament for North Shore, taking over from the capable hands of the New Zealand custodian, Ingrid Jagersma, who bowled yesterday. Kelly proved herself a worthy replacement with three stumpings. Results:
