Iranians exhorted to play sport
NZPA-Reuter Nicosia Iranians have been told to play more sport for the good of the nation and themselves.’’ The Parliamentary Speaker, Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, said fundamental changes were needed to make the Islamic republic more serious about sport, the Iranian news agency I.R.N.A. reported. It said Mr. Rafsanjani told a meeting of Iran’s leading sportsmen that more attention should be paid to sport “not only for a livelier and healthier nation, but to bring pride for Iran in the international scene.” The agency said he called on the military to return sports facilities taken over during the Gulf war.
