Shoe warehouse break-in
Footwear valued at thousands of dollars, including some not yet released on the New Zealand market, have been stolen in a Christchurch burglary. The break-in at the Hi-Tec Sports warehouse in Selwyn Street was discovered at 8 a.m. yesterday. Its managing director, Mr Roger Stockton, said the break-in had occurred some time after Christmas morning, when he was lasfe,at the
premises. Mr Stockton said a check of stock was under way to determine the number of shoes stolen. He estimated several hundred pairs had gone, possibly valued to $30,000. The company is the sole New Zealand distributor of Hi-Tec footwear. Mr Stockton said Hi-Tec soccer and rugby boots had
in New Zealand for the last two years but the Messina style, stolen in the burglary, had not yet been distributed. Also stolen were three styles of Hi-Tec hiking boots, K2 Ultra, Lady Nouveau and Granite. The boots were made in Yugoslavia and Korea. The offenders also made off with Italian-made apres-ski boots.
