Library service
Sir,—l support the staff of the National Library Service, Christchurch, threatened with redundancies as the cost of obtaining any increase in salaries. They provide local schools with a wonderful service of resource material and go to endless trouble to help meet teachers’ needs. Their job demands encyclopaedic knowledge, personal service and dedication. In comparison with England, teachers here have a treasury of books to help them in their work. Their remuneration should acknowledge these points, whilst preserving staffing levels to maintain the quality of the service to the children of Christchurch. — Yours, etc.,
