Campaign to ‘save’ Sundays
PA Wellington The Government’s move to introduce limited Sunday racing is under attack from the Save Our Sundays (5.0.5.) group.
The Church-based group has launched a letter-writing campaign to pressure members of Parliament into voting against the Racing Amendment Bill next year.
The campaign co-ordi-nator, Tom Quayle, said Sunday was a family day and one that should be promoted as a day of worship, rest and recreation.
A National Research Bureau survey commissioned by the group found that 30 per cent of the public supported limited Sunday racing, 54 per cent opposed it and 16 per cent did not know.
