Graf bypasses event
NZPA-AAP Brisbane Organisers of next week's Australian Women’s Hardcourt Championship have missed out on Steffi Graf, but are still hopeful Pam Shriver will defend her tennis singles crown.
The Queensland Lawn Tennis Association president, Geoff Griffith, yesterday received confirmation from Graf’s American agent that the West German will not take the final wild-card place for the first tournament on Milton’s Rebound Ace courts.
And Mr Griffith is now waiting for a reply from Shriver’s coach, Don Candy, on whether Shriver will take the position.
