Waitaki set for change

The Waitaki County chairman, Mr Struan Munro, believes the people of . the Waitaki Valley will make their new local government structure work. “We have to,” he said yesterday.

The Local Government Commission has drawn the regional boundary between Otago and Canterbury through the valley with the upper part receiving regional government from Canterbury and the lower part from Otago. Mr Munro said he would have preferred the whole valley — a single community of interest — to have' been in one region.
