Three herbal medicines contaminated
By SARAH SANDS The Health Department has issued a warning about three herbal medicines which are being recalled in Australia. Two of the medicines, called Eyebright Extract and Golden Seal Ointment, are sold as treatments for eye infections. The third product is a vaginal douche called Triad Douche. All three are manufactured by a Sydney-based company, Triad Health Products Pty, Ltd.
Several batches of the products are being recalled because they are contaminated with micro
organisms. If used they could cause infection. The batches involved are 74097061 (douche), 84749 and 84837328 (Eyebright Extract) and 84777214 (Golden Seal Ointment). The Health Department said these products had not been approved for use in New Zealand but it was possible they could be on sale here or could have been brought into the country by travellers. Anyone who had purchased any of these products should not use them but flush them down the sink or toilet, advised the department.
