Boost for Hastings
Hastings’ economy is expected to be boosted by abou $1.2 million next year when the world rollerskating speed championships come to the city. But, according to the president of the New Zealand Federation 01 Rollerskating, Mr Michael Cullen, some members of the business community have shown little interest in the event. Up to 1000 overseas competitors, officials anc supporters were expected in Hastings for the champion ships, at Windsor Park from November 16 to 19 nexi year, said Mr Michael Cullen. The overseas visitors were expected to outlay at least $1.2 million accommodation and other spending while they were in Hastings, he said. The World Championships have been held in New Zealand only once before. —PA
