Alberjon tops off preparation
Special correspondent Palmerston North Alberjon worked in fine style at Awapuni yesterday morning, topping off his preparation for the Evening Standard Christmas Handicap at the Manawatu Racing Club’s meeting at Awapuni tomorrow. Alberjon finished fifth
last week after having a good run. Kim Clapperton rode him but she is required for Sage tomorrow. Robert Hannam will ride Alberjon. Working on the plough which provided good footing, Alberjon was quickly away, running the last 1000 of 1200 m in 1:03. He went fast early then eased
over the last 600 m in 39. Infantry took his time running 100 m in 1:11, the last 600 m in 40. David Walsh rides him in the Christmas Handicap. Soubrette carried on her Manawatu Cup preparation by moving stylishly over 800 m in 51, the last 600 m in 37.8 — Margaret Bull has no rider
engaged at this stage. Lisa Cropp was to have ridden the mare but she will be at Ellerslie on Monday.
Trissering was again in dashing form, running 1000 m in 1:2.4, the last 600 m in 38.4. Vienna Belle ran 1000 m in 1:6.4, the final 600 m in 40.4. She won well at Otaki and is set for an-
other big effort in the Wiseman Plate. David Walsh replaces Mark Heaney, who is in Australia for a few days. Pierre Marcel worked with Mr Cool over 1200 m in 1:19, the last 600 m in 39.6. Vreeland took 49 for a smart 800 m, the final 600 m in 36
