Carnival is 77 this year
The Caroline Bay Carnival for 1988-89 will begin officially on Monday, December 26 at 11 a.m.
The variety of events, stature of the performers, and the seamless organisation of the Carnival are all testimony to the skills of the organisers. The Caroline Bay Association can take considerable satisfaction in having organised their 77th annual Carnival this year. By now the event in the “Riviera of the South” has become etched in the pleasant recollections of
generations of holidaymakers.
Timaru, and the throngs who converge on the Bay each year, owe a debt of gratitude to the Caroline Bay Association for its selfless dedication to a single aim, with the resulting high standard of entertainment.
The key to this everimproving excellence is the adroit fashion in which the Association has managed its finances over the years.
Long before an investment mentality became a popular concept the
Association adapted a strategy of ploughing profits back into the amenities of Caroline Bay. Many of these improvements such as the Sound Shell are now blithely taken for granted but
without the Association they would not exist. Stadium seating is another sought-after attraction that the Association has been responsible for. The most recent innovation provided by
Association funds is the highly-popular mini-golf course. The huge geodesic dome which houses the aviary is another attraction sure to prove popular again this year.
