Rogernomics

Sir, —Mr Douglas, the man of a thousand excuses, who is still blaming the previous Government for his own shortcomings, can retire to a back bench knowing that in imposing Rogernomics on the nation he has decreased Government services, increased the cost of communication so that many organisations cannot afford to mail receipts or send out newsletters, orchestrated the demise of rural communities, raised the tax on superannuitants so that it is not worth their while to work, scaled beneficiaries so that it is not worth their while to work either, decreased living standards to the level of some Third World countries and to a point where young couples can no longer buy a house on a single income, caused debt collection to become the biggest growth industry, forced farmers off the land, manufacturers out of business, rocketed unemployment and caused an exodus of working people overseas reminiscent of the Irish potato famine. And all this in the name of “straightening out the economy.” After four years the economy is in a mess and stead-

ily getting worse. Thank goodness he has been stopped before making it any worse. — Yours, etc.,

T. F. COOK. December 16, 1988.
