Cyclist punctured
PA Wellington A cycling holiday in New Zealand by a Canadian, Mr Ken Beitel, seems to be going from bad to worse, the police say. Senior-Sergeant John Bowman, of Paraparaumu, said Mr Beitel was shot in the buttocks with a high-powered slug gun while riding along State highway 1 just north of Otaki on Saturday evening. He was taken to Wellington Hospital but the pellet worked its own way out. The police are looking for a large, light-blue vehicle like a Chevrolet, in connection with the incident.
Senior-Sergeant Bowman said this was Mr Beitel’s second unpleasant experience since arriving in New Zealand three weeks ago. His camera was stolen from an Auckland youth hostel where he was staying. But Mr Beitel told the police he was not put off. New Zealand as -he had met a lot of nice Kiwis.
