Waterbeds still undelivered
By SARONA lOSEFA Some Designer Waterbeds customers complained to the Consumers Institute and Commerce Commission this week that they still had not yet received beds paid for a fortnight ago. The Auckland-based mobile firm was highlighted on December 7 in "The Press” when it attracted hundreds of Christchurch buyers through advertisements from November 19 to 26 on radio and in newspapers to buy beds ranging from $199 to $799. Two weeks later some buyers still had not got waterbeds that they had paid cash for at the advertised sale, and the company had moved on. According to the Christchurch delivery contractor for Designer Waterbeds, who did not want to be named, he had delivered all orders that had been given him by the Auckland-based firm. Thirty-one beds had been delivered to Christ-
church buyers, and 180 more to buyers in Blenheim, Nelson, Timaru and Dunedin. The contractor knew of only one bed that was still to be delivered in Timaru, but this was delayed because the buyer had changed address from that written on the original docket. He said that some buyers had tried to take advantage of the recent confusion on waterbed deliveries by claiming they still had not received their beds when his, and Designer Waterbeds’ records confirmed they had. “All I can suggest is that anyone who has not received their waterbed from Designer Waterbeds, contact me in writing, and I’ll cross-check their claims with Designer Waterbeds in Auckland,” the contractor said. Details of undelivered Designer Waterbeds and the customer’s name, address and telephone number should be sent to P.O. Box 7420, Christchurch.
