The largest single loading of coal is being loaded on the bulk carrier, Stella, at Lyttelton for delivery to Japan. The 57,000 tonnes of coal will take the vessel to maximum loading. The Lyttelton Port Company’s cargo services manager, Mr Peter Rea, said more than 140,000 tonnes of coal was stockpiled at Te Awaparahi Bay in Lyttelton, the largest stockpile ever. Another shipment of coal will be loaded on the Iron Prince when the vessel arrives from New Plymouth next week. About 12,000 tonnes will be loaded for shipment to Australia.
