Aust. tourist shot

NZPA-AAP Port Vila An Australian teen-age tourist was recovering in hospital yesterday after being shot by a member of the paramilitary Vanuatu Mobile Force on Thursday night. An Australian Embassy official yesterday confirmed that Michael Henderson, believed to be from Sydney, sustained a

gunshot wound after the car in which he was travelling with his family was fired upon by the V.M.F. His age was not immediately revealed. The spokesman said Mr Henderson had a bullet removed from just below his left shoulder by surgeons. The incident apparently

took place on the outskirts of Vila when the car drove through a poorly lit road block set up by armed troops last night in response to the worsening political situation here. The spokesman said the back window of the vehicle was shattered and flying glass cut all four occupants, but not seriously.
