Child abuse explained

A new booklet for parents explaining how to identify the danger signs of child abuse has been produced by tne Social Welfare Department. Titled, “There are no Superparents,” the booklet is intended to inform and raise awareness about child abuse.

It explains the causes and effects of cM?d abuse,

the need to identify the signs, and lists the agencies that can be contacted in an emergency. The booklet acknowledges that parenting can be stressful and urges parents to ask for support if they feel they cannot cope.

It was compiled by the department and the National Advisory Com-

mittee on the Prevention of Child Abuse. It replaces an earlier booklet, “Cry For Help,” which is now out of print. The new booklet will be available in the community from Plunket nurses, doctors, hospitals, community organisations, professionals and voluntary groups working with famines and from the depart>Pt.
