Man found guilty of robbing chemist

After deliberating for 40 minutes, a jury in the High Court found a man guilty of aggravated robbery and Mr Justice Williamson remanded him on bail to December 14 for sentence.

Peder Jan Koefoed, aged 28, a painter, had denied a charge that on June 30, while armed with a knife, he assaulted David Royle Pollard with intent to rob.

Evidence was given that Koefoed held up a Manchester Street chem-

ist, Mr Pollard, and was given doloxene tablets. Koefoed said that he was going to wash the tablets down with gin to kill himself. Mr Pollard tried to persuade Koefoed to hand the drug back but he made off and was apprehended a short distance away. Mr David Saunders appeared for the Crown and Messrs Tony Garrett and David Ruth for Koe-

foed. The defence called one witness, a psychiatrist.
