N.Z. players ‘mystified’
NZPA Hyderabad The New Zealand cricketers touring India are “mystified” by talk of protest action against the England tour early next year, according to the vice-captain, Martin Snedden.
The players are aware that the anti-apartheid group, Hart, is considering
protest action against the England team, which contains several players with South African connections.
“At this stage it’s not really a worry, perhaps because we’re out of New Zealand and are unaware of what’s going on at home,” Snedden said. “But the players are a little mystified as to why
Hart wants to get involved in a series between New Zealand and England.”
Snedden also wondered at the reaction of the New Zealand public to threats of protest action.
“I think the New Zealand public would also be a little mystified and I’m fairly hopeful the whole thing will die a quiet death.”
