NZPA Sydney The New Zealand women’s tennis team was offering no excuses after being bundled out of the Federation Cup in Melbourne by Czechoslovakia 3-0 yesterday. "It was a really tough match. We just made too many mistakes and didn’t convert our advantages into points,” the team captain, Jeff Simpson, said last evening. “But Belinda (Cordwell) and Julie (Richardson) will benefit enormously from the experience. The Czechs are an extremely strong team,” he said.
Unseeded Sweden knocked an overconfident United States team out of the Federation Cup yesterday inflicting the worst defeat on the Americans.
