Sport Australia surrenders

NZPA-AAP Perth Australia capitulated in the second test at Perth yesterday rather than offer the injured Geoff Lawson as a sacrifice to the West Indies’ hit squad. Lawson, his shattered jaw protected by a helmet fitted with a visor, courageously prepared himself for the onslaught in the nets as Aus-

tralia stumbled towards defeat last evening. But he did not appear after Australia’s ninth wicket fell late on the final day and Australia’s second innings closed at 234 for the West Indies to triumph by 169 runs.

The West Indies led by 54 runs on the first innings and declared their second early today a 349 for nine.
