Lotto sponsorship for life-savers
Lotto profits should help keep New Zealand beaches safe this summer through a $500,000 sponsorship of volunteer surf life-savers. The scheme was launched yesterday at New Brighton beach, where a Lotto presenter, Kerry Smith, handed over colourful beach shelters, T-shirts and caps to members of the New Brighton, Waimairi and South Briighton surf life-saving clubs. The lotteries commission is also providing marker cones to show swimmers the extent of the patrolled areas. All 71 clubs throughout New Zealand will be given gear. Ms Smith visited a number of Lotto outlets after the presentation yesterday morning, and will visit another five today before leaving Christchurch. From 10.15 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. she will be at the Target Bookshop, Northlands Mall, the outlet which sold the division one winning ticket in the last draw. The draw made an instant millionaire out of a Christchurch man, who has asked to remain anonymous.
