Drought relief

Farming families who qualify for the Adverse Events family income support must put their application into the Social Welfare Department by Friday in order to receive the full payment.

To qualify, the farmers must be within the drought affected area and rely on farm revenue for the family’s income.

However, even with a spouse working away from the farm, families could still be eligible for support, according to the facilitator for the New

Zealand Rural Trust, Mr David Watson.

Full details of criteria can be obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Federated Farmers, or the New Zealand Rural Trust.

Applications, by post, to the Social Welfare Department, must be made by Friday, in order to qualify for payments retrospective to November 4.

Payment for a married couple with no children is $145 per week. Families with one child receive $lBO a week, increasing $lO for each additional child.
