In carrying approximately 300,000 patients annually they travel about 7 million kms and incur costs around $25 million. Trust funds held centrally total $8 million with an annual cash flow of $4.5 million. The existing Ambulance Transport Advisory Board Is to be replaced by a new body - the New Zealand Ambulance Service Board. This new board will consist of six members. Its prime function will be to provide policy direction and co-ordinate development of the services. It Is seeking an Executive Director who has proven strategic planning skills, an ability to communicate effectively, a sound record of financial and general management, and well developed leadership qualities. The successful applicant will be joining at a time of significant challenge and opportunity, given the changes that are taking place in the health field. The Executive Director will be responsible for: l. Advising the board and Its committees on issues likely to affect policies, terms or conditions under which the ambulance service in New Zealand operates. 2. Developing strategic plans and achieving agreed policy objectives. 3. Assisting operators to co-ordinate their services on a regional basis so that they function effectively and efficiently. Executive Director candidates should be well qualified, academically and practically. 1. Practical experience will be evidenced by a successful adminlstrative/managerial appointment/ held over several years in, preferably, a multidivision organisation. It will also, ideally, derive from service in an ambulance organisation. 2. Academic achievement will, preferably, include tertiary qualifications in administration In general and financial management. Age is flexible but it is likely that the successful candidate will be 45-50 given the level of maturity and performance history required. An attractive remuneration package, within a renewable contract, will be negotiated.
