‘Multiplex’ planned by Pacer

Pacer Kerridge Corporation yesterday announced that it had finalised contractural arrangements to build its first “multiplex,” combining cinemas and shops. The senior vice-presi-dent of Multiplex, Mr Mark Day, said in a statement yesterday that the

cinema complex would be built in Palmerston North and completed next December. Pacer Kerridge was also negotiating other multiplex developments in

New Zealand at an estimated total development cost of $lOO million — the building and land costs being the responsibility of the developers or users of the complexes,

he said. Pacer announced the intention to build a 10cinema and retail complex in Christchurch last week. Mr Day said that the

Palmerston North development would be known as “Downtown on Broadway.” The multiplex would include six separate cinemas, three of which would have the facility to show the same film.
