Ovine promotion
Sir,—The Meat Board has done it again — “ovine” for sale in America! As a home-maker and cook of long standing, I would take one look at something ticketed ovine and look elsewhere. Surely the familiarity of a product helps to sell it? Imagine going into a restaurant and seeing ovine cutlets on the menu. It conjures up visions of a longnosed ewe served on a platter. Imagine the field day the satirist would have with the name. At least a woolly lamb image is acceptable to most people, but old ewe would crush my digestive juices straight away. Maybe the Meat Board needs a few homemakers on its crew to come up with more acceptable ideas. On another subject, I note that the crew on the Fisher and Paykel yacht (December 5) are not wearing life jackets. Not a good example at all. — Yours, etc.,
M. LAMMING. December 5,1988.
