Mr J. B. Page
PA Auckland Mr John Beamish Page, assistant editor and chief leader writer of the “New Zealand Herald,” died suddenly at his Birkenhead home. He was 61. Mr Page, who joined the “Herald” in 1946, wrote editorials for the newspaper for more than 27 years and was senior leader writer for 15 years. Mr Page was born in Wellington and educated at Roseneath School, Scot’s College, King’s College and Auckland Uni-
versity College, he worked in Canada and Britain and travelled widely between 1955 and 1961, when he returned to the “Herald.” An erudite, meticulous writer, he wrote with authority on many subjects, specialising in politics and finance. Outside journalism, to which he was dedicated, he was an expert on jazz, old records and the history of the gramophone. Mr Page is survived by his wife and his a daughter.
