Computerised stock control
A commitment to computerisation saw Noel Leeming’s become one of the first retail chains in New Zealand to introduce a computerised stock control and accounting system. The Mainframe IBM System 38, which is housed in the Head Office complex, is linked to all the stores’ cash registers providing automatic updating of stock control on a daily basis.
This enables the individual shop managers to keep control of stock levels and ensure that there are always plentiful supplies of the top selling lines available. At the same time, the computer keeps the company’s accounting and credit records up to date. All the necessary software programmes are written by the company’s own computer staff.
