Arts Council to back Limbs

PA Wellington The Arts Council has confirmed it will fund the Limbs Dance Company to July 1 next year. The dance company is expected to sign a contract with the council and provide reports on its performance. Michael Stiassny of Limbs’ executive welcomed the council decision. The council chairman, Mr lan Cochrane, said the council would also release the remainder of the $200,000 rescue package which was frozen since August when Limbs’ financial position reached a crisis point. “Since August, Limbs and the council have worked closely together to aid recovery,” he said. “The council is delighted that Limbs will continue next year as a major force in New Zealand contemporary dance.” Mr Cochrane said establishment of a new Limbs board, however, remained unresolved. Limbs’ financial problems came to public attention when it was revealed in August that the company had debts of more than $200,000.
