Mr Gordon Street
Mr Gordon Street, a key figure in the motor body building industry, has died in Christchurch, aged 81. Mr Street began his apprenticeship building hansom cabs in 1923. For 33 years he was a partner in C. Hunton, Ltd. Mr Street was first elected to the branch executive of the Canterbury Motor Body Builders’ Association in 1941, and served as president from 1955-57. He became president of the New Zealand associa-
tion in 1959, serving on the national executive until 1971. He was made a life member of the association in 1979. Mr Street also served on the Canterbury and New Zealand Apprenticeship Committees for many years. He had many interests, particularly cage birds, and was a prominent layman in the Anglican Church in Christchurch. Mr Street is survived by a daughter and a son.
