Smart galloper goes amiss

The smart West Coast galloper, Pericolini, has gone amiss and could be away from racing for some time. Pericolini, an acceptor for the first day of the Greymouth meeting on Saturday, pulled up sore from his final trial and his condition showed no improvement in the following 24 hours. “The injury seems to be In the shoulder some--where. We haven’t pinpointed it yet and we can’t say how bad it is but I don’t like the look of it at this stage,” said the horse’s trainer, Bill Kennedy, who recently lost a close relation of the gelding. Pericolini has had a high strike rate from a relatively light racing career, his biggest win last season being in the Great Easter Handicap when he beat Camallino Star over 1400 m in close to 1.23. He had looked likely to develop into one of the brighter stars among southern gallopers this season.
