Queen Mother loves show

NZPA-PA London The cast of “Neighbours” last evening treated the Queen Mother to a Royal command performance — and Britain’s favourite great-grand-mother loved every minute of it. The cast of the top Australian television soap opera had flown across the world to present their sketch at the Royal Vari-

ety Performance at the London Palladium. The request for their inclusion came from the Queen Mother. The Queen Mother nodded knowingly when “Neighbours” star-turned-pop-singer, Kylie Minogue, appeared on stage to perform two songs. Then Minogue, who recently left the serial, introduced the cast. The Queen Mother and

the Princess of Wales are fans of the hit soap, Britain’s second most popular. However, a “Daily Express” critic, David Wigg, said the cast of “Neighbours” looked like a gang of wallies and danced like ruptured kangaroos. Wigg also took Minogue to task for miming her hit song “I should Be So Lucky” during the show, but noted that even such

an experienced performer as Cliff Richard chose to mime rather than sing live.

Hours before her appearance last evening Minogue dismissed reports she sulked at rehearsals and had threatened to walk out of the show.

She was delighted to be singing before the Queen Mother and reports of a threatened walkout were nonsense, she said.
