Govt plans changed

PA Wellington Government proposals to restructure broadcasting have been changed to block the possibility of Ministerial interference in television and radio programmes.

The change means no Ministerial direction could be issued to radio or television executives over programming, editorial content or standards, the Minister of Broadcasting, Mr Hunt, told Parliament during the second reading

of the Broadcasting Corporation of New Zealand Restructuring Bill. The bill will set up Radio New Zealand and Television New Zealand as new State-owned enterprises.
