Shipping news
About 95,000 tonnes of West Coast coal is being stockpiled at Te Awaparahi Bay in Lyttelton for shipping to Japan next month. The first shipment of coal is expected to leave the port about December 12 on the Stella. A second shipment is expected at the end of December. The operations manager for the Lyttelton Port Company, Mr Dave Edwards, said that in the last financial year, up to October, 300,000 tonnes of coal was shipped from the port to Japan.
