Best-selling bard

Sam Hunt, quintessential time-warp bohemian, he of the heron-legs, winklepickers, and mat-ing-battle-lost hair, returns to Christchurch this week.

His new show, “From the Far Side of the Room” will be presented cabaret-style at the Town Hall on November 25 at 8 p.m.

The last 12 months have been a productive time for the multi-fa-ceted bard. He has scripted and fronted a 50-minute documentary “Catching the Tide: Sam Hunt’s Cook Strait.”

In production at the moment is an eight-track album of his poems arranged and produced by Fane Flaws. The album, which will be released next year, features many New Zealand and expatriate musicians, including guitarist Tony Backhouse, singer Rick Bryant, and New Zealand’s Jack Nicholson, Bruno Lawrence, on drums.

In addition, Hunt’s “Selected Poems” have been published by Penguin. His "Collected

Poems” is the biggest selling book of poetry ever published in New Zealand.
