Party membership
Sir,—lf Mr Tapsell thinks that the Democratic Party is a discredited political force he should look at the Labour Party’s membership figures. According to my information, there are seats where Labour’s membership has dropped by more than 95 per cent in the last four years. On the other hand, the Democrats’ membership is rising. Probably about a fifth to a quarter of all Labour M.P.s represent electorates in which the Democrats now have more members than Labour. By the time of the next election most Labour M.P.s will be in this position.—Yours, etc., JOHN RING. November 6, 1988.
