Clarification sought on health care initiatives
The Canterbury Hospital Board will seek clarification of the Government’s new primary health care initiatives. A board member, Mr David Close, told the health services committee yesterday that it was important for the Minister of Health, Mr Caygill, to give details of the new policies to the board. "We are getting involved with becoming an area health board and it is important that we ask him to clarify what he means as soon as possible,” he said. The board’s chairman, Mr Tom Grigg, said that the Hospital Boards’ Association had approahced the Health Department for details of the new policies. “We asked senior people from the department if we could have the parameters and the answer was they had no idea what they were.” The committee will recommend that the board write to Mr Caygill seeking clarification.
