WALKWAY OPENING: NOVEMBER 13, 1988 TEKAPO WALKWAY (Lookout section) THE Canterbury District Walkway Committee is pleased to announce the opening of the Lookout Section (Township to Cowan’s Hill) of the Tekapo Walkway on Sunday November 13,1988. The walkway extension has one end at the Lake Tekapo control gates on the main highway No. 8 and the other at the lookout car-part at Cowan's Hill. This lookout at Cowan’s Hill gives splendid panoramic views of the lake and surroundings peaks and valleys. The extension of the Tekapo Walkway is about 3 km long and will take a pleasent hour to walk one way, through the village plantation forest and across open tussock fields. The opening ceremony will take place at the Lookout Knob 200 metres from the Cowan’s Hill car-park at 1.30 p.m. and will be followed by an inaugural walk. The public is Invited to take part. This walkway extension has been a co-operative development between the Tekapo Community Council, Mackenzie county council and the walkway Committee.
