Indecencies linked

Two indecencies performed in central Christchurch on Monday evening are linked, the police say. The first, just before 10 p.m., occurred in the car park opposite the Court Theatre in Worcester Street. A man was seen masturbating in view of the street. He rode off on a 10speed bicycle. About 50 minutes later a woman answered a knock to the front door of her Cambridge Terrace address. She saw no one but noticed a silver 10-speed bicycle parked beside her front gate. She heard a noise at the back of her home and looked out a window to see a man masturbating in her private courtyard. The woman called out to the offender who fled. The description of the offender in both cases is European, aged 25 to 35, wearing a grey or lightcoloured short-sleeved sweat shirt and grey, loosefitting tracksuit pants. Woman robbed A woman was robbed after leaving the Equestrian Hotel, at Hornby, on Saturday evening. The woman, a staff member, left the hotel about 10 p.m. and walked along an alleyway between Tower Street and Brynley Street. The offender got out of a car and followed her a short distance, prompting the woman to break into a run. He chased her and attempted to punch her in the face. She fended off the blow with her arm but dropped her purse, containing about $BO and personal items. The robber picked it up and left in a blue or green car with a light-coloured vinyl roof; possibly a Cortina. The man was European, aged between 20 and 30, about 168 cm (sft 6in) tall and bearded. Car occupant sought The police want to speak to the occupant of a blue 1984 Mazda car who they believe may be trying to sell jewellery to shop-owners in the Burwood area. The man is known to have made at least one approach to a shopowner on Monday. The incident was reported by a member of the public who was in the store at the time. Whitebait stolen Whitebait worth about $lO,OOO was stolen in a burglary of Cascade Whitebait, in Wentworth Street, Riccarton, on Monday night. The frozen whitebait was packaged in lots of 250 g, 350 g and Ikg.
