Plenty of parts
Autoparts International has been a part of the automobile industry in Christchurch for 63 years. Trading first as Autoparts, Ltd, the company now has branches in Auckland and associate companies in Wellington and Invercargill. It has been involved in the Japanese parts market for the last five years. “The percentage of Japanese cars on New Zealand roads has risen markedly in the last five years, but so too has the supply of parts,” said Russell Boyd, National Sales Manager of Autoparts International. Autoparts International has built up an extensive supply network in recent years to the extent that it has a container of parts leaving Japan every three days. “If we haven’t got the parts we can have them in New Zealand in 45 days. We are in daily contact with our suppliers and they will put any part needed urgently on to the next container.
“If the person is really desperate and the part only small then we can get it out here by air, but the costs involved with clearing customs and air transport means the bill will be a minimum of about $l5O compared with $10,” he said. Autoparts International also sources new products from Korea and Taiwan.
