More civil aviation being privatised
The gradual privatisation of civil aviation authorities throughout the world dominated yesterday’s first session conference of directors-general of civil aviation from the Asian and Pacific region. The four-day conference in Christchurch, the first of the group to be held in New Zealand, is not open to the public.
The conference chairman and Director-General of Civil Aviation in New Zealand, Air Commodore Stewart Mclntyre, said the
benefit of the conference was its opportunity for civil aviation officials to meet and informally exchange views and information. “Technological ideas can be exchanged and, particularly for countries with limited financial resources, the opportunity to learn from what other countries are doing, and find the most efficient avenues for aviation safety, is most valuable.” Privatisation occupied much of yesterday’s
agenda but there seemed to be no uniform experience from the 32 nations represented at the conference. “But we have been able to listen to the problems experienced by individual countries and how they went about addressing them.” Sessions today will concentrate on aerodrome and ground aids, search and rescue, air traffic services and communications and meteorology.
