Fondessa shapes up
Special correspondent Dunedin Fondessa was in fine form at the Wingatui barrier trials on Sunday. The three-year-old filly returned the fastest time of 1:1.9 in the two open heats over 1000 m. She made the pace and won under a hold by a length and three-quarters after taking 48.7 for the last 800 m.
Trainer, John Heasley, plans to run Fondessa in a C 3 1100 m race at Wyndham on Friday.
Her stablemate, Fiesta Point, won the other
1000 m open heat comfortably in 1:3.1. He made the pace and finished a length and a half clear of Wee Bee.
Gay Ellery made a good impression when she won the open 1200 m heat. She made the pace and won by two lengths from Royal Friend with half a head to Lara Pinta. She ran the distance in 1:14.2.
Tiwai narrowly beat Turf Cruiser with a gap to Native Era in the open 2000 m heat. Riwai was handy on the outer and edged out Turf Cruiser, which made the pace.
